If you are a snow lover and you want a valid alternative to skiing, we offer you an increasingly known and practiced sport:  snowshoeing.  It is a snow trekking experience that takes place with the help of snowshoes, used to walk safely on cold and slippery surfaces. Snowshoeing is a sport that smells of times gone by, when snowshoes were the only means available to move around during the winter.

The most suitable area in Umbria for this experience is the area of  ​​the Monti Sibillini National Park  in the town of Castelluccio di Norcia. The Piana di Castelluccio,  beautiful and fascinating not only during the flowering in summer, snows easily (we are about 1350 meters above sea level) as well as the adjacent Monte Carrier. The temperatures in winter are very cold, with a minimum that can reach -30 degrees. These are the ideal conditions to ensure that the snow falls abundantly, creating fantastic expanses suitable for snowshoeing. In this area you can choose between various snowshoeing routes and experiences that will allow you to discover corners of the plain and particular ring routes that surround the mountains.

You can choose whether to dedicate yourself to the Pian Piccolo, from which you can see the  small village of Castelluccio  and discover the beautiful woods that surround it, or you can go up along the Carrier paths, more difficult and with greater height difference, if you do not take advantage of the organized excursions at night. or at the first light of sunset: you will always remember the colors of the sun setting on the snow of one of the most evocative landscapes in Italy.

Upon returning from excursions, you can take advantage of one of the refuges in the area to warm up by eating an excellent dish of  local legume soup (the Piana di Castelluccio is famous for its lentils and legumes).
